China Recruiting Female Civilian College Students to Serve as Naval Aviators

"We welcome young men and women who love national defense, are committed to the sea and the air, and are well-rounded to apply, so that they can dedicate their youth to building a world-class navy and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!"

The above quote was included in the article discussed below. The following are the opening paragraphs of an 2/21/2023 U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) article, Chinese Naval Aviation to Allow Female, Non-Military College Pilots for the First Time, by Dzirhan Mahadzir.

"For the first time, the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) is recruiting females and graduates from non-military colleges to be naval aviators, it announced through a recruitment drive released Monday.

"The call for female aviators is part of the PLAN's naval pilots recruitment this year, with successful candidates scheduled to enter the service in three or four years, according to a brochure.

"As a strategic service with complete arms and both nuclear and conventional weapons, the navy plays a very important role in the overall situation of national security and development. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the missions and tasks of the naval forces have been continuously expanded, and the strategic transformation has been accelerated, and the demand for high-quality military personnel has become increasingly urgent," reads a translation of the brochure.

China Seeking Western Military Pilots to Provide Military Training

The article further pointed out that, "China is also working to have its pilots get naval aviation training from retired western pilots. Western countries are tightening restrictions on such training, including taking action against retired personnel who teach Chinese pilots."

Excerpts from a 3/16/2023 Australian Associated News report Police Probe Former Fighter Pilot Over Chinese Training sheds additional light on this issue.

Police are investigating a former British military pilot suspected of involvement in the training of Chinese People's Liberation Army pilots at a flying school in South Africa...Federal police searched the Australian home of Keith Hartley, chief operating officer of the Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA), in November, the Federal Court was told on Friday...

Another ex-military pilot who previously worked for the flying school was arrested in Australia in October and is fighting extradition to the United States where he faces charges of training Chinese military pilots to land on aircraft carriers.

Britain's air force chief said this month intelligence agencies in Australia and Britain had shared information to warn pilots against working for Beijing.

In Oregon, flight schools, such as those operating out of the airports in Hillsboro, Troutdale, and Redmond, not only accept Chinese students, but actively recruit them.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), state legislatures, and local municipalities routinely gouge the American public for billions of dollars to keep U.S. airports in tip-top shape so that President Xi, the People's Republic of China and other foreign governments can train student pilots over the homes and neighborhoods of local residents. Those who bear the brunt of the financial cost, noise, lead emissions, pollution, safety and security risks posed by profit driven U.S. based international flight training schools have good reason to wonder how many of China's military recruits have received and are currently enrolled in pilot instruction and certification programs at U.S. airports.
